LyondellBasell and CHEMTREC recognized the Robstown Volunteer Fire Department in February with a $10,000 check that will help the department purchase hazardous material response equipment needed to keep their communities safe.
“We’re a small department and rely on grants and awards like this, so we really appreciate the help,” Robstown Fire Chief Javier Zapata said. “And we will work to continue to be good partners.”
The Robstown Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1914 and handles approximately 600 calls a year. The department serves a population of 11,000 covering more than 30 square miles. Through the HELP Award, the department plans to purchase hazardous material response equipment which includes gas monitors and hazmat suits to enhance their ability to serve the city and surrounding communities.
The HELP Award, established in 2019, provides annual funding to volunteer fire departments across the U.S. to increase their emergency response capabilities and local preparedness to respond to hazardous materials situations.
"We're thrilled to support our local heroes through this national recognition. By focusing on states where we operate, we ensure that our local emergency responders and communities directly benefit," said Scott Campbell, LYB Global Supply Chain VP.
In 2024, LYB partnered with the CHEMTREC HELP award to support volunteer fire departments with the support and resources they need to keep their communities safe. In previous years, the LYB Americas Supply Chain organization donated to local fire or emergency response organizations as a part of the U.S. Logistics Service Provider Safety Conference.
The HELP Awards are an example of our commitment to safeguarding communities and supporting first responders.
“We are excited and honored to share this award with the Robstown FD. LYB Corpus Christi is part of this community and we are proud to help equip fire departments with the tools and support needed to be the best responders for the community they serve,” LYB Corpus Christi Site Manager Alicia Matus said.
